On August 12th, 2006 we will be honoring the life and achievements of Dr. Richard T. Speakes.

Just 27 years old, Dr. Speakes has already dedicated nearly a decade of his time, love, money and wisdom towards the betterment of the community. He is the founder of Battle Ground Youth Ministries, which helps at-risk inner city youth and young adults. Dr. Speakes is having an awesome effect on both the young and old; equipping them with life skills, contributing personally towards their education and basic needs, counseling them and helping many go on to live productive , meaningful lives. His commitment and ability to meet people "where they are" and accept them for "who they are" is having a profound affect.Dr. Speakes' story is all the more inspiring-as he, once was victim of abuse- found strength to LIVE through it, LEARN from it and SURVIVE. An accomplished poet and author- his books have gone on to win multiple awards and sell countless copies, primarily through word of mouth publicity. His resolve to rise above and beyond has become addictive to those around him and reaches people on every social level. Those who have met him are amazed by his strength and applaud his courage. A 96 year old woman once told him how she admires him and that when she "grew up" she wanted to be just like him- a very humbling honor for such a young man, Dr. Speakes continues to serve in all humility and remains forever humbled.We-friends and family - are proud to announce this benefit in his honor. All proceeds raised will go towards providing ongoing services and spiritual wellness for the community.

Donations will be used to purchase a building and fund the outreach programs that have fed, clothed and provided aid for at-risk youth and those living with HIV/AIDS in the Philadelphia area.

Let's join together and support the vision of a young man who has already given so much!
